Humboldt man gets 50 years for murder

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

HUMBOLDT - A Humboldt man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the slaying of a Dakota City man last spring.

Twenty-year-old William Shekey was sentenced Monday in Humboldt County District Court. He was found guilty of second-degree murder on Aug. 5 for the slaying of Michael Ruberg.

Court records show the two men got into an argument at a party in Rutland on April 5. The argument escalated into a fight and an autopsy showed that Ruberg died of a blunt force injury that lacerated an artery in his neck.

Shekey must serve at least 35 years of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
