Alta got off to a shaky start at home in week one, but the Cyclones eventually settled down and took advantage of three big plays that all went for scores as they put away Sioux Central 21-8 in the opener.
The Cyclones' victory moved them all the way up to #4 in the Class A rankings behind Southern Cal, Madrid, and North Tama.
Coach Kevin Hammer and the Cyclones will be looking for more consistency to go with the explosiveness they've shown as they prepare to take on a Pocahontas team that fell to Newell-Fonda in the final minutes of the 4th quarter last week.
Alta will look to build upon the 141 yards they put up last week. Jack Mills led the way with 77 yards on seven carries including a 53 yard TD dash.
Fullback Jake Syndergaard rumbled for 59 on 13 rushes. Along with Michael Huseman, both should see plenty of action against a Pocahontas team that gave up 185 yards on the ground last week.
Alta struggled to contain Sioux Central's rushing tandem of Trevor Tiefenthaler and Mike Ripke last week, but it should prove as a valuable learning experience for the Cyclones as they will need to slow the Pocahontas ground attack that put up nearly 250 yards against Newell-Fonda a week ago.
The Cyclones look to stay perfect heading into district play with kickoff set for 7 PM in Pocahontas.
