The Laurens-Marathon Chargers volleyball team hosted Emmetsburg in their season opener and won in three straight. The Chargers beat the Emmetsburg by a score of 25-17 in all three games.
Laurens-Marathon offense started their season impressively as five players had three or more kills.
Grace Christensen led the way with ten. Jordan Sunblad and Shelby Heuton each totaled eight on the night. Amanda Zylstra had six, and Kim Kenobbie finished with three on Tuesday night.
Setting up the Chargers' offensive was Chelsey Anderson who registered 28 assists on the night.
Anderson also recorded three aces serving. Other Chargers finding success behind the service line were Heuton who had three aces and Kenobbie with two to her credit.
Defensively, Holly Anderson led Laurens-Marathon with 15 digs on the night. Zylstra added 10. Heuton led the Chargers with two blocks.
Overall, Chargers head coach Kerry Feekes seemed pleased with her squad's effort in the season opener.
"We played pretty well and had a good night," Feekes said. "We have some things to work on but will improve as we gain match experience. We got a solid effort out of all of our players. It was great for Grace, Chelsey, and Holly to play so well in their first start on varsity."
Laurens-Marathon will take the court again Saturday morning as they take part in the Algona Classic beginning at 9 AM.
