Sioux Central VB drops first game

Thursday, September 4, 2008

The Rebels volleyball team dropped their season opener against a tough East Sac team at home on Tuesday night. Sioux Central lost in three straight, 6-25, 8-25, and 17-25.

Leading the Rebels offensively, Brooke Scharn tallied six kills in the opener. Michele Ferguson was second in kills on the night as she finished with four. Brady Rebuhn was seven of eight serving with two aces. Michele Ferguson was close behind at five for six in service attempts.

"We're better than we showed tonight in both hitting and serving." said Sioux Central head coach Sue Mattson.

Scharn paced the Rebels defensive efforts as well as she led the team with 8 digs on the night to go along with two blocks. Rebuhn had four digs while Grace Rehnstrom added three blocks in an impressive defensive effort.

"East Sac is a well-rounded team," said Mattson. "Passing gave us some difficulty to begin with, but we improved by the third game. We found ourselves in the first two games playing more defense than offense. East Sac deserves a lot credit."
