BVU Women's soccer drops season opener to Northwestern

The Buena Vista women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought contest on Friday afternoon, 6-0, to Northwestern College during day one action of the 2008 BVU Classic.

The Beavers played well in the first half, allowing only one goal, while out-shooting the Red Raiders, 9-7. Northwestern then exploded in the second half, registering 16 shots, compared to just one for BVU, en route to five goals.

Becca Hurley paced NWC with four goals on 13 total shots, to go along with two assists. Becca Bruns and Serah Bugler chipped in with one goal each.

Freshman McKayla Simmerman recorded two shots on goal to lead the Beavers.

Sophomore Justine McGarvey, who went the distance in-goal for Buena Vista, tallied 10 saves in the contest.

Buena Vista drops to 0-1 on the season and will return to action September 5 and 7 when the team travels to Kenosha, Wis., to take part in the Carthage College Tournament. The Beavers will open against Clarke College on the 5th at 2:00 p.m.
