Trisha Yearwood lands at Clay Fair

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Trisha Yearwood will consider herself lucky to be at her next tour stop, kicking off the first night of the 20087 Clay County Fair.

In fact, she's lucky to be anywhere. A week ago, the lyrics to her song "How Do I Live" may have been running through her head during a plane emergency as she was returning home to Oklahoma from taking part in the 60-mile walk to benefit the Susan G. Komen breast cancer research fund.

She said she heard a sound like a gunshot - the breaking of a window in the front of the plane at 30,000 feet. Pilots were able to don oxygen masks and made an emergency landing in Baltimore before the break had a chance to affect control of the plane.

Despite the drama, which continued on the ground with firetrucks and emergency crews, the singer made the best of it.

Says Yearwood: "We toasted to surviving the three-day walk - and the emergency landing!"

The country music icon Trisha Yearwood performs on Saturday, September 6, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 and $28, available on www.claycountyfair.com.

Yearwood's career took off fast when her single "She's in Love with the Boy," rocketed to number one on Billboard's "Hot Country Songs" chart in the spring of 1991. Since then, 38 of Yearwood's singles have graced the country Billboard charts, nine reaching number one, and she has won three Grammys.

This year will mark the 18th anniversary since Yearwood and her now-husband, Garth Brooks, both appeared at the Clay County Fair in 1991. She will be dedicating the new Grandstand stage before her performance.

She is releasing a new CD, "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love," in which upbeat songs relace much of the gut-wrenching themes of earlier.

There's a light in her smile and buoyancy in her tone that's undeniable and absolutely infectious. "It still amazes me that I make a living doing what I love to do," she says. "I love, love, love to sing."

The internationally known "A cappella" group, Rockapella, will open for Yearwood. The group is known for the theme song to the television show "Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?" and catchy Folgers coffee commercial jingles.
