A remodeling project to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center to build a new cafeteria and kitchen area onto the campus and expand the surgery area is well underway. The BVRMC Board of Trustees broke ground last August. Now a year later Director of Engineering Lenny McDonald says he feels the project has been going smoothly except for an icy winter that slowed the project down some.
"We've come a long ways but we've still got a long ways to go. It does take a lot of time to do it all," he said. McDonald says he is unsure of a completion date. The new dining area has several large windows to provide natural lighting and will also have LED lights says McDonald.
The dining area will have a grill that is located where people will be able to watch them grill food. The surgery area of the hospital is being expanded and will occupy the space which currently houses the cafeteria and kitchen of the medical center. McDonald says they are expanding their out patient surgery area. "The reason for that is growth." The new outpatient rooms will also provide more privacy, he adds. When complete McDonald says they will have four surgery suites instead of three. Throughout the whole process McDonald says it has been important to include all the employees and managers in the decision processes. "They're taking some ownership in what's being done," he says. As they continue forward with the remodeling and expansion project McDonald says some of the parking lot in the back will be turned into green space.
