Corn blocks view in fatal accident

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

Twenty-year-old Mason Leonard, Holstein, died Friday as a result of a two-vehicle accident. He was transported to Horn Memorial hospital by the Holstein Ambulance where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of a second vehicle, Jeremy Ferguson, 22, Danbury, and a passenger, James Fleenor, 29, were transported to Horn Memorial Hospital where they were treated for injuries.

Leonard was traveling north in Ida County on Brady Ave. at about 2 a.m. in his 2000 Chevrolet Lumina. Ferguson's 2002 Ford F250 was westbound on 150th St. As both vehicles approached the intersection their views of one another were blocked by standing corn.

Leonard ran a stop sign and entered the intersection and the Ferguson vehicle struck Leonard's vehicle. Both vehicles came to rest in the northwest intersection of the intersection.

The Highway Patrol determined Ferguson may have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
