Storm Lake half-marathon begins to attract attention across the nation

Thursday, August 7, 2008

The new Jump In and Run Storm Lake event planned for Labor Day weekend is beginning to attract attention far beyond the city limits.

Registrations have come in this week from as far away as Texas and California, according to organizer Grace Ivey.

"The big thing we want to stress is that this is a family event, for all ages and abilities ," Ivey said. "You can run or walk, we just encourage everyone to do something good for themselves. It is a gift to yourself to go our running or walking."

One retired couple is planning on walking the half-marathon relay, she said.

The first-time event will be held Sunday, August 31 - with a 13.1 mile half marathon along the scenic lakeshore, a two-person relay half marathon, and 5K run or walk, all starting at 7:30 a.m. near King's Pointe Waterpark Resort.
