With some help from many volunteers and a long line of vehicles, staff at the SOS Thrift store were able to move all of their merchandise into the new store in less than two hours they say.
"Everything just fell into place," says Shirley Kelley, SOS Boardmember and manager. Now they'll have more room to grow as they continue helping students of St. Mary's and their education. In fact they've doubled their space, they say.
July 24 was their first day of business at the new location at 409 Cayuga St.
"Look for a grand opening in the near future," says Kelley.
Their mission statement is "The principle mission of SOS is to provide supplemental aide to the students of St. Mary's School. The SOS is a service organization volunteering time and talent to benefit St. Mary's students.
St. Mary's has been recognised for its accomplishements of its students which is why the managers say they are so enthused about continuing to keep SOS up and running.
"We're so proud of our school, our students, this gives us added incentive to keep going (with SOS)," says Kelley.
In addition to many volunteers Kelley says they have great community support not only in Storm Lake but other surrounding communities as well. However, Kelley says they always welcome more volunteers.
Currently there are four managers at SOS, Kelley, Donna Pishek, Rose Reiling and Delores Snyder, leading a large corps of volunteers.
