An agreement was signed Monday by Iowa Lakes Community College and Buena Vista University administration that ensures an easier academic transition for students at Iowa Lakes.
During the formal ceremony on the Estherville campus of Iowa Lakes, the presidents of both institutions spoke of the value of the official Bachelor of Applied Studies program agreement.
"This will ensure that Iowa Lakes graduates in a wide variety of programs ... will be able to enter Buena Vista University as a junior," said Dr. Harold Prior, president of Iowa Lakes. "Buena Vista has been a leader... in terms of taking a college education to where the students are."
It was 30 years ago that Buena Vista established its first off-campus location in Spencer.
Buena Vista University President Fred Moore said he was excited to partner with Iowa Lakes.
"We value our partnership with President Prior and all the fine folks at Iowa Lakes," said Moore.
And, he stressed that the students receiving the degrees of Associate in Science and Associate in Applied Science are "important ... to the economic development in this part of Iowa."
The Bachelor of Applied Studies program is designed to meet the needs of graduates of community colleges and other accredited institutions who have completed an Associate's degree. The degree program is available through the Storm Lake campus and BVU's Professional & Online Studies program which has 14 locations throughout Iowa.
Also during the ceremony, David Evans, the new vice president of Academic Affairs at Buena Vista University, was introduced to those in attendance.
