Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) recently announced rural development funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the City of Alta. The City was awarded a grant of $8,700 to purchase emergency services equipment, such as air packs, for the Alta Fire Department. The Department serves the City of Alta and the Townships of Elk, Nokomis and Maple Valley.
Harkin is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.
"First responders need every resource available to keep our communities safe. This is true of all regions in Iowa, but more so in rural areas where first responders have a more difficult job," Harkin said. "I congratulate the City of Alta on this competitive funding."
The funding was administered through the Economic Impact Initiative Grant Program.
