In July, Dr. Greg Hansen, who has practiced dentistry for almost 30 years in Storm Lake will have a new practicing dentist at his dental center - his son, Chris. Chris Hansen, 2001 graduate of St. Mary's, spent three years at Buena Vista University and then graduated from the University of Iowa's College of Dentistry program this summer and decided to put down roots in his hometown with his wife Rebekah..
Both Greg and his son were born and raised in Storm Lake and now will be working together at Family Dental Clinic. "It's just a great opportunity to come back and work with my father. He's (Dad) definitely the one who influenced me (to become a dentist)," says Chris.
Chris says he feels one reason he chose this career is it's a career that it will allow him to be able to go home every evening after work and see his family which is important to him.
"They (my parents) were able to go to all my games, that's what I want to be able to do when I start having a family," he says. Greg says he's glad to have family in the area. "I'm proud of my kids," he says.
Once Hansen begins practicing in July he says the dental clinic will be transitiong records to computer so the clinic can become as paperless as possible. He said they will also be aquiring some some intra-oral cameras which can show patients where they need to brush or floss more or show them a cavity or cracked tooth.
"(It will) show them what we see in the mouth," says Hansen.
Rebekah is originally from Omaha. Hansen says he met her while they were both resident assistants at BVU. Currently she is a nurse at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
