The Albert City Summer Fest annually names and recognizes a Citizen of the Year and a Fireman of the Year.
This year's Citizen of the Year award went to Al Patton. He has been employed at the Webb bank for 20 years and the Albert City bank for the past five years.
He has served as the coach for the past four years for the traveling basketball team which his son Scott is a member of, serves as the trustee for Herdland Township, is the treasurer of the Methodist Church and is a Crime Stopper. Patton has also taken school groups to the Clay County Fair.
Patton and his wife Phyllis were escorted to a waiting convertible at the start of the Summer Fest parade; they rode through the parade and the opportunity to wave at everyone.
The Pattons are the parents of Scott and Brooke.
The Fireman of the Year award went to Alan Nelson, known to everyone as AJ.
AJ has been a member of the Albert City Fire Department for eight years. Besides dedicating time to attending meetings and answering fire calls, AJ and his dad Jim were instrumental in helping do some restoration work on the department's antique fire truck.
He has been employed at a few places in Albert City including being a dedicated employee at Ag Partners.
Nelson was not able to be at the parade to receive his award.
He has taken a new job in Royal and he and his wife Karna and two daughters have moved. The community thanks him for his dedication.
