The month of May always proves to be a little busy as it contains National Nursing Home Week, Mother's Day, and our Volunteer Appreciation Day. The month started off on the first with our volunteer appreciation supper. Volunteers gathered in our basement community room and were served soup in a bread bowl, relish, and Boston cream pie. This is our small way of thanking the wonderful group of volunteers that serve our home and our residents tirelessly throughout the year. The following week was just as exciting as Deb, Diane, Andrea, Josh, Kayla M, Kayla S, and Hannah kept our residents busy with activities varying from patio time to bingo to sing-a-long, and then on our annual summer shopping trip to Wal-Mart. On the 11th we hosted our Mother's Day Coffee and got ready to kick off National Nursing Home Week! Special activities were held all week long for staff and residents alike. The Nain Lutheran Friendship club provided goodies on Wednesday, The Amazing Mark, a wonderful magician, performed on Thursday morning, and Friday afternoon the residents hosted a staff appreciation, where we put that SOFT SERVE ice cream machine to work. Also on Tuesday we held our all staff inservice where Iowa Hospice provided our much appreciated staff with a huge spread of food but also with a massage/music therapy session. The rest of the month we were kept busy and hopping with activities offering Slides by Mel, a performance by Mike Moneypenny, Bethel Baptist Friendship club, and a very special Strawberry Day. Friday the 23rd was Strawberry Day, a colaboration of our culinary and activity departments. The morning started off with Strawberry Stuffed French Toast and the afternoon was filled with strawberry information and desserts.
June looks to be as busy as May since our residents have already enjoyed the few nice days out on the patio, a trip to the Albert City nuring home, and a special party given for our staff in honor of two years of safety. Staff were honored with a steak dinner and a party with a gas card giveaway for all their hard work and dedication to keeping our home safe. We hope the summer finds all our friends well and happy and we invite you to stop out on one of these rainy days to share a cup of coffee or lunch with a friend.
