Alta's Bibler hurls PERFECT game

Thursday, June 12, 2008

Alta 9, Rockwell City-Lytton 0

ALTA - Junior Jessy Bibler pitched a perfect game Tuesday night as Alta beat Rockwell City-Lytton 9-0.

It was a bit of an improvisation for the Cyclones, who hadn't scheduled RC-L, but added the game at the last moment when Laurens-Marathon was unable to field a team for its scheduled game at Alta this week.

Bibler hit her spots with pinpoint control all night, tying the young RC-L hitters in knots. In seven innings, she struck out six and walked none.

"Jessy was just on fire tonight," Coach Dave Turnquist said. "She was tremendously accurate and had good velocity, and the defense played errorless ball behind her. Rockwell City is a team that doesn't have a lot of experience, but they do have some good hitters, and this was impressive to see.

Bibler has been starting for Alta since 8th grade, and plans to continue softball in college, though she hasn't chosen a school yet, she says.

Haley Payne led Alta at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, two steals and two runs scored. Chelsea Brugman had a pair of hits, an RBI and two steals.

Alta improves to 10-6, 3-1 in the Northwest Conference race.
