Tonic Sol-fa free at Fair

The Midwest's most in demand a cappella group, Tonic Sol-fa, will return to entertain fans at this year's Clay County Fair. The four-member male collaboration, originally from the Twin Cities area, will perform free concerts in the Grandstand at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8.

Formed over a decade ago, Tonic Sol-fa has created a fresh take on the traditional "barbershop quartet". The group's sound has proven very effective, selling over 1,000,000 albums and touring nationally and internationally for 12 years.

Predominately known for their pop-styled arrangements, Tonic Sol-fa's musical output relies solely on a tambourine and their own voices. The group averages 150 concerts annually, reaching upwards to 250,000 person audiences across 48 states.

Tonic Sol-fa has been able to develop a large fan base not only from their pop music, but also from their annual Christmas albums and engagements. Every year the group independently produces a 20 city holiday tour throughout the Midwest. In 2006 Tonic Sol-fa was featured on public television performing a compilation of popular Christmas tunes. Their program reached over 1,800 stations across the U.S. and in 2007 it was broadcast internationally.

The guys have performed for both national Republican and Democrat events, as well as for former presidents. In 1997, they were inducted into the Midwest Music Hall of Fame. Tonic Sol-fa also has been nominated multiple times for awards given by the National Association for Campus Activities and has won in the category of Contemporary Artist of the Year.

Admission for the Monday shows is free and open to all ages.
