While Jeff Lietz has lived nearly his whole life in rural Alta, his new wife Chris is new to the community, to the state and even to the country.
The couple has recently purchased a home at West Links. The Alta Builds Connections Team welcomed the family with several gifts from the local businesses.
Chris hails from Brazil - where all of her family continues to reside.
Just how does a pretty gal from Brazil meet an Iowa farm boy? It was luck and great luck at that!
In Brazil, Chris worked for an airplane manufacturing company in the department responsible for aircraft deliveries. It just so happened that Jeff's uncle, the chief pilot for American Eagle airlines made a stop at the company and met Chris. He told her about his nephew in Iowa and invited her to the United States to meet him.
The couple hit it off traveling back between the countries and learning even more about each other through conversations on the computer.
They were married in Brazil in January of 2006; all of his family was able to attend. Because of Visa problems, he returned to Iowa without Chris. She came to live in Alta 10 months later - right in the midst of wibnter - something she had never experienced.
She loves Alta. "It is a very nice community - everybody helps each other. I like that. But I don't like the weather. Now living on t he golf course, the couple intends to learn how to play golf. She has helped on Jeff's farm but will poursue a job. Chris continues to improve her English and has found some Brazilian friends in Storm Lake - which keeps her from getting too homesick. She is anxious for her family to come to Alta for a visit.
Jeff is the son of Connie Lietz and the late Howard Lietz.
