Newell-Fonda and Alta girls golf teams emerged from District play to qualify for the 1A Regional Tournament at Deer Creek in Hinton this week, but fell a step short of qualifying for State.
Hinton won the Regional with a team 364, followed by West Monona with 384.
Newell-Fonda was third at 408, just missing the cut-off for State. Kelly Johnson shot a 95, Trisha Johnson a 99, and District medalist Susan Keis a 100 to lead the Mustangs. Hannah Rossiter shot 114, Becky Seivert 119 and Kari Bodholdt 123.
Alta struggled all day at Regionals, Coach Jeanne Strock said. Alyssa Engelke was low with 108, Kolbie Boom shot a 112 and Courtney Van Haaften 113. Lindsey Strock shot a 124, Alli Glienke 143 and Kelsey Barker 144. Kolbie Boom had produced a nice 103 to place fourth in the district tourney.
Neither Newell-Fonda or Alta placed any golfers in the top five to qualify as individuals for State.
