Experience a little taste of Mexico without even crossing the border at El Parian Mexican Grill and More, an authentic Mexican restaurant that just opened last week on West Milwaukee in the old Baker's Court building. That's the experience owner Ismael "Mike" Leon says he wants for his customers to take away from his restaurant. Leon opened aother El Parian Mexican Grill and More location in Spencer last year and noticed many of his customers were coming from Storm Lake.
"There's a lot of people from Storm Lake who go to Spencer and like my food," he said. "I wanted to bring it closer to them." He said he is committed to providing fast service and hot food. "We know people have to get back to work (during the lunch hour) so we don't want them to be in a rush, we want them to be comfortable," he said. "I just want people to try us out," said Leon. "We're looking forward. We're trying to have a relaxing and great atmosphere." Currently Leon said his specials are 99 cent margaritas all day on Wednesdays and he offers lunch specials everyday.
Leon said that college students can receive a 10 percent off discount off their meal by presenting their student ID. Leon moved to the United States when he was 12 from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He started working with his family in the restaurant business in 1988 in Des Moines. In 2002 he started his own restaurant in Denison but later sold it. Now he owns two restaurants in Spencer and Storm Lake. The building that now houses El Parian used to house Villa Mexican Grill and Fresh Seafood.
El Parian is open on Mon. - Thurs. from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Fri. and Sat. 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sun. from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
