Howard Bayse, 89, Springfield, Mo., formerly of Bolivar, Mo., passed away at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Mo. after a long illness.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 8, at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake, with Rev. David Cartwright officiating and Rev. Dennis Niles also speaking under the direction of the Butler Funeral Home in Bolivar, Mo. Military Honors will be provided by the AMVETS Post #66 of Storm Lake.

Howard was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Newton to Luther and Arminta (McKenzie) Bayse.
He worked in Maintenance Services for the Maytag Corporation for 22 years before retiring in 1978. Prior to working for Maytag he was a farmer. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Bolivar, Mo. and was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II.
Howard is survived by his wife - Elizabeth Alice (Ferguson) Bayse; three daughters - Janice Joggerst of Florida; Wanda Cartwright and her husband David, DeSoto, Texas; Barbara Holmberg and her husband Thorulf of Ooty, India; one brother; Russell Bayse, Leesberg, Fla.; two sisters - Betty Krauth, Omaha, Neb.; Marjorie Alice Niles, Prescott, Ariz.; two sons-in-law - Earl Etten of Texas; and Jesse Rodriguiz, Des Moines; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; Emma Jean Bayse; two daughters - Virginia Mae Bayse Etten and Ruth Pauline Rodriguiz; an infant sister;three brothers - Clyde Bayse, Harold Bayse, Roy Bayse; and a great-grandson - Samuel Cartwright.

Carter W. Brock, 91, Sioux Rapids, died Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center at Storm Lake.
Services for Mr. Brock were held Monday, April 28, at Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids at 1 p.m. Rev. Leela Prince officiated and the burial followed in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

Carter Woods Brock, the son of Samuel and Rilda (Dalton) Brock was born in Somerset, Ky., on April 18, 1917. Carter lived his youth and received his education in Kentucky. As a young man, he worked on various farms in Kentucky and Nebraska.
On Dec. 21,1941, Carter was united in marriage to Dorothy Cuthbert in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. This couple was blessed with three children: Ronald, Donna and Richard. Throughout their married lifetime, Carter was employed on many farms in the Gillet Grove, Rembrandt, and Sioux Rapids areas. He had also served as a custodian at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake for six years. They began their retirement years in Rembrandt and later moved to Sioux Rapids in 1982. Dorothy died on Feb. 25, 1998. Carter continued to make his home in Sioux Rapids and became a resident of the Sioux Care Center in 2006. Carter will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who enjoyed the outdoors and he especially liked to fish.
Those who will always cherish their memories of him include his children: Ronald and Judy Brock, Fullerton, Neb.; Donna and Don Rohrer, Galesburg, Ill.; and Richard and Peggy Brock, Spencer; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Carter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and several brothers and sisters.
