Norma J. Miller

Norma J. Miller, 76, Alta, passed away Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Horn Memorial Hospital of Ida Grove.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the Alta United Methodist Church. Pastor Terry Pollard officiated. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery of Alta. The Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Alta was in charge of the arrangements.
Norma Joanne Schott was born April 15, 1932 in Alta, to Harry and Helen (Peterson) Schott. She attended grade school at Lincoln Lee Consolidated School and graduated High School in Marathon, Iowa in 1950. She was employed by the Citizen State Bank in Marathon after graduation. Norma later worked at the Alta Memorial Hospital in Alta and Dr. Thomas Shea's office in Storm Lake doing x-ray and laboratory work. She did secretarial work, bookkeeping, and pedigree registering for the Blonde d'Aquitaine Cattle Association for five years. Later she did bookkeeping, typesetting and layouts for ads for the "National Jr. Livestock Exhibitor" Magazine for seventeen years. She also worked in Denver in a children's clothing store called "Little Things." Norma was active in the Blue Grass Visual Art Guild in Missouri, Nokomis Study Club, Alta and PEO Chapter JB, Alta.
Norma greatly enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren, spending many hours sharing their lives and activities and doing special things with them. She was an accomplished artist, working in oils and charcoal, enjoyed collecting and restoring antiques, and was an avid reader. In her later years she traveled extensively with her children both in the states and overseas, and had a never-ending curiosity about the world and the people in it.
She is preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister - Donna Marie; and one sister - Cleo Schott Cole of Storm Lake.
Survivors include one daughter Coleen Jensen, Seattle, Wash.; five sons, Michael Miller and his wife Robin, Alta; Rex Miller and his fiancée Debra Corbin, Ethel, Wash.; Dirk Miller and his wife Kathy, Hillsdale, Wyo.; Lance Miller and his wife Brooks Morse, Eugene, Ore.; and Bart Miller and his wife Melissa, Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren, Michelle Miller and her husband Douglas Lemp, Alen, Texas; Tabitha Lightfoot and her husband Justin of Ballwin, Mo.; Ben Miller. Littleton, Colo.; and Paul Miller, Littleton, Colo.; two step-granchildren Morgan Thomsen and Bryson Thomsen, both of Littleton, Colo.; two great-grandchildren Addison and Peighton Lemp, Alen, Texas; one step great-grandson Douglas Lemp Jr., Alen, Texas; one brother -in-law Wayne Cole, Storm Lake; and a host of friends and relatives.
