LM boys, SC girls are Charger Relays winners

The Laurens-Marathon boys won the Charger Coed Relays Monday in impressive fashion, scoring 153 points to second-place Sioux Central's 105. Alta was third with 99, Newell-Fonda fourth at 56, Aurelia fifth at 50 and St. Mary's seventh with 24 amid the 11-team field.

On the girls side, Sioux Central was the winner with 165 team points, with Laurens-Marathon second at 133. Among area teams, Newell-Fonda was fourth with 45, and Storm Lake St. Mary's fifth with 23.

In the boys's events:

Travis Leuer of Laurens-Marathon continued his strangle-hold on the long jump with a leap of 6'8". Teammate Kolby Joynt was second, Adam Ehlers of Sioux Central third.

The discus was won by Luke Sarchet of Newell-Fonda at 134 feet. Gary Breechler of LM and Nathan Schumann of NF were second and third.

Luke Sarchet of Newell-Fonda threw the shot put 44'7.75", but official results in that category were not available.

The 100 meters went to Keton Joynt of Laurens-Marathon in 11.23, followed by Cody Nesbitt of Alta in second. Weston Pickhinke of St. Mary's was fifth.

Sioux Central's Jeff Loving was second in the 200 meters, with Newell-Fonda's Robert Johnson third. Sioux Central's Jeremiah Davis and Nate Cowell finished one-two in the 400 hurdles, with Devin Lind of Laurens-Marathon third.

In the distance medley, Sioux Central won, followed by Alta and Aurelia.

Brandon Pedersen of Aurelia won the 800 meters, with Marshall Wernimont of Sioux Central second.

In the 4x100 relay, Laurens-Marathon won, followed by Sioux Central, with the LM JV in third. Sioux Central won the 4x400, followed by Newell-Fonda, Aurelia, and Alta in fourth.

Tom Nitchals of Newell-Fonda was second in the 400 meters, with Scott Patten of Sioux Central third.

In the 4x200, Alta won with Laurens-Marathon second and Sioux Central third.

In the 4x400, it was LM, Alta and Sioux Central out front.

Aurelia's Jared Bruce won the 1600 meters in 4:50.59, followed by David Jones of Laurens-Marathon in second. Paul Yak of St. Mary's was fifth.

Yak won the 3200 in 10:52.10, followed by Jones and LM teammate Trent Kischer.

In the 110 hurdles, Scott Radke of Alta won in 16.71, followed by Gary Brechler of Laurens-Marathon and Jeremiah Davis of Sioux Central.

Mike Huseman of Alta won the 200 meters in 22.54, followed by teammates Quentin Thomas in second and Keton Joynt of Laurens-Marathon in third.

Brandon Pedersen of Aurelia set personal bests in two events.

Among the girls:

Jordan Sundblad of Laurens-Marathon won the high jump, followed by Brianna Ehlers of Sioux Central and Jacki Peters of Newell-Fonda.

Kacie Bodholt of NF won the long jump, ahead of Holly Hofmaster of Laurens-Marathon.

Brittany Rydstrom of LM won the discus, with Erin Safely and Brady Rebhuhn of Sioux Central on her heels.

Safely was the highest area athlete to place in the shot, with a third.

Megan Hoffmaster of LM won the 100 in 12.97, with Kelsie Kulp and Ellie Franzmeier both of Sioux Central on her heels. Brittny Rebhuhn of Sioux Central was second in the 200. Sioux Central had a third in the 400 from Grace Rehnstrom.

Brooke Scharn of Sioux Central won the 100 hurdles, with Diane Johnsen of LM second.

St. Mary's Emily Mohr won the 3000 in 12:07. Sioux Central's Jennifer Rushton was first in the 1500, with Rachel Culp of NF second. Rachel Culp won the 800 for NF, edging Christine Becker of St. Mary's by two seconds.

In the relays, Sioux Central was first and Laurens-Marathon second in the 4x800. Sioux Central won the 4x100 followed by Laurens-Marathon and the LM JV.

Sioux Central crushed the field by almost half a minute in the girls distance medley, and was a winner in the 800 sprint medley, ahead of LM.

In the 4x100, Laurens-Marathon was first with Sioux Central second. The two teams reversed fortunes in the 4x400. LM won the 4x200, with SC third.
