The Alta boys barely outran Laurens-Marathon in a tight team battle at the Northwest Conference Coed meet Monday night in Laurens.
Alta finished with 120 points, followed by Laurens-Marathon at 119, Sioux Central with 104, Schaller-Crestland 97, Newell-Fonda 47, Aurelia 46, Storm Lake St. Mary's 22 and Pomeroy-Palmer 2.
Jared Bruce of Aurelia set a new conference record in the 3200 to win in 10:23.99, breaking his own mark set last year.
On the girls side in the Northwest Conference Meet, Sioux Central ran away with the title with 174 team points. Laurens-Marathon was second with 120, Schaller-Crestland 96, Alta 86, Aurelia 41, Storm Lake St. Mary's 28, Newell-Fonda 25 and Pomeroy-Palmer 11.
For Sioux Central, the 4x800 team of Brittny Rebhuhn, grace Rehnstrom, Cassie Moens and Elise Knudtson was first in 11:31.18. The shuttle hurdle team of Stephanie Thompson, Caitlin Patten, Rachel Peterson and Brooke Scharn was first in 1:09.29.
Scharn was first in the 100 hurdles at 16.01, and Jen Rushton first in the 800 meters at 2:49.9. The Rebels added seconds and thirds in all the field events, and performed well in the other relays for the team win.
The Aurelia girls distance medley team finished first in a new meet record time.
Shaina Thevenin, Meghan Glawe, Erin Laursen and Audrey Winterhof turned in a 4:38.13 to break a mark that had stook since 2003.
Thevenin, Laursen and Winterhof teamed with Regan Henkel to become conference champs in the 4x400 as well, in 4:34.59.
Audrey Winterhof was third in the 200 meters, and the 4x100 team of Henkel, Glawe, Courtney Bruce and Arielle Megrath were third in the 4x100.
