Council OKs rail crossing project
The Storm Lake City Council took care of several agenda items during a short meetng Monday, included authorizing an agreement which would make safety improvements to the railroad crossing on Geneseo Street.
The project would include an installation of flashing signals and gate arms.
According to Pat Kelly, Infrastructure and Public Facilities, the federal funding for the project is expected to be available in October with the project estimated at costing about $150,000
The 90 percent funding portion of the project is part of an agreement is between the Iowa Department of Transportation and the railroad. The city has its 10 percent share banked.
* The Cty also approved the resolution that accepted bids for the Storm Lake Airport Parking Lot Rehabilitation Project. A bid letting was held on Apr. 16 where four bids were received. The lowest bid for the project was Godberson Smith of Ida Grove, at $153,739. The Federal Aviation Entitlement Funds Grant Program will provide 95 percent of the cost for construction.
* A resolution was approved for completion of areas of the Beach, Playground and Great Lawn Contract with Lessard Contracting, as part of project AWAYSIS. According to Mike Wilson, project manager, the remaining work which should be completed by mid-May and includes seeding, landscaping and irrigation.
* The council approved renewal of the Memorial ball fields lease to St. Mary's School after a public hearing. The new lease runs 10 years at $1 per year.
* The council renewed the Community Garden Lease with the same agreement that's been in place in the past.
