For the Cyclones' guest teams at the Alta Co-ed Relays Tuesday Night, there was a storm brewing.
The Alta girls piled on 191 points to outdistance Remsen St. Mary's with 174, Pomeroy with 68, Storm Lake St. Mary's with 44, and Aurelia 40.
The Alta boys ran away with their half of the meet in even more dominating fashion, with 200 team points, followed by Aurelia with 118, Remsen SM with 74, Storm Lake SM with 50 and Pomeroy with 44.
Alta girls event winners included Ashley Syndergaard in the shot put with 33'1.5" and in discus with 86'4".
Jordan Henningsen won the long jump at 14'10.75", Jessy Bibler the 100 meter hurdles in 16.92. The shuttle hurdles relay won in 1:12.14, the 4x200 in 2:07.38, and the 4x400 in 4:52.17. Alta added seconds from high jumper Hillary Glienke, 3000 runner Nicole Connolly, 100 hurdler Hannah Glienke, 400 hurdler Stef Hunter, and relay teams in the 4x800, sprint medley and 4x100.
Although slim in numbers and unable to compete in relays, Storm Lake St. Mary's performed well, with Panthers Christine Becker and Emily Mohr finishing one-two together in the 1500 at 5.39, and Mohr just edging Becker for second in the 800, as well as Mohr taking third in the discus.
For the Panthers, Olivia Garcia placed fifth in the 100 meters, Ceyle Eqsdall fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 200.
Aurelia was in the thick of it in several races, led by Meghan Glawe in second in the 200, and another second for the 4x200 relay team. Amber Loucks was fourth in shot put, Shania Thevenin third in long jump and Courtney Evans third in the 100.
Alta swept a majority of the events on their home track Tuesday night.
Brady Randall (44'10") and Andrew Allerdings went one-two in shot put; Micah Haller (127'10.5") and Jake Syndergaard did the same in discus.
Jack Mills easily won the long jump with 19'6".
Mike Huseman (10.93) and Chris Schmitz finished one-two in the 100 meters with Huseman setting a meet record, Scott Radke won the 110 high hurdles in 17.04, Jack Mills (23.60) and Cody Nesbitt were one-two in the 200, Scott Radke (1.05.90) and Ryan Vonnahme set the pace in the 400 low hurdles.
Alta won five of the six relay events, setting meet marks in the 4x200 and 4x100, and finished second in the 4x400.
Aurelia had an amazing meet with a second place finish despite fielding only eight eligible athletes. They were led by tireless Jared Bruce winning the 3200 meters in 10:47.07, the 1600 in 5:13.93, and the 800 in 2:18.07.
Aaron Bruce won the 400 in a personal best 57.62, Brandon Peterson won the high jump by four inches with a leap of 5'8", and the Bulldogs took the 4x400 relay.
An outmanned St. Mary's team had to pick its spots, but had several strong events. Eric Ocenueda and Michael Ivey were second and third in long jump. Paul Yak and Justin Cullen were second and third in the 3200 meters, and Yak was third in the 1600. The Panthers' best finish in the relays was a second in the shuttle hurdles.
