The EDGEFest '08 band lineup and beneficiaries were announced this week by officials from KBVU 97.5 The EDGE.
The rock festival will be May 10th in Storm Lake's Sunset Park and will include seven alternative rock bands, pre-concert events and food stands.
Here's My Chance, the winner of KBVU's battle of the bands last fall, will return to Storm Lake as one of seven alternative banks appearing at Sunset Park. EDGEFest organizers have also selected: Destrophy, a metal band from central Iowa; City Sleeps, a rock band from Atlanta, Georgia; Throw the Fight, an alternative band from Minneapolis; Mindrite, a rock band from Des Moines; Four Word Cause, a pop rock band from Ames.
In addition, seven local bands are vying for the opening spot at this year's EDGEFest. KBVU is holding an on-line vote this week with the winner appearing as the opening act. Competitors are Dead Horse Trauma, Burden of Shadows, Same Sick Feeling, Home at 10, High Octane, The Further Adjustments, and Till Flames Fall. Voting will continue at KBVU's website until midnight Sunday, April 13th at "http://web.bvu.edu/organizations/kbvu/"
This year, KBVU will donate all EDGEFest gate receipts to the American Cancer Society, Faith, Hope & Charity, Storm Lake Public High School, Storm Lake St. Mary's High School and Alta High School. All high school donations will fund scholarships for college-bound students who plan to major in the fine arts. In Storm Lake, the donations will be managed by Dollars for Scholars.
"I'm really excited about the charities we are supporting this year," said KBVU station manager Keith Christensen. "Faith, Hope & Charity has always been high on our list to give to, this year - it's their turn! The American Cancer Society is a great cause and it lets us reach out not only to the local community, but also to the outside world. And as a graduating college student, I know how much the scholarships can help future students."
Sponsors for this year's events are: Chuck Whittenburg Distributing of Spencer, Al's Liquors, Rasmussen Ford-Mercury, Hy-Vee Food Stores, Northwest Iowa Paintball, Silk Screen Ink, Puff's, Universal Kenpo Karate Dojos, and the Buena Vista University Office of Admissions and Student Activities Board.
"EDGEFest is a growing event, we've made it better each year, so I have high hopes for this year. This is the best and most affordable concert you'll find in Northwest Iowa," Christensen said.
Tickets for EDGEFest will be $5 at the gate. EDGEFest is a non-alcoholic event.
