Shedding the dark winter sweaters and parkas reveals this spring's fashion line-up blooming with bright, vibrant colors.
Bright oranges, hot pinks, aqua blues are the colors of choice this spring. However, blacks, whites and browns also continue to be popular.
Ladies' spring tops can be found in a wide array of patterns like polka dots, stripes and 1970's floral patterns, whatever suits your style. "Ruffles have been the new thing this year," said Jessica Hirschman, assistant manager at Maurice's.
To give a black or white top a more "springy" look layering them with a other tops can bring about some color to the outfit.
The Buckle carries a number of Polo shirts, tees and button down shirts for men that come in earth tones which are the color of choice for many guys this spring - browns, blues, greens.
Layering is a fashionable way for ladies to stay a little warmer during those cooler temperatures. "We usually layer a lot of things with tanks," said Hirschman. Layer tank tops with short sleeve tees or short sleeve button up shirts underneath.
Burnout shirts that are made with a thinner material allow colors that are layered underneath to bleed through A plain tank can be layered underneath a burnout shirt with a baby doll tank layered on top.
Short sleeve hoodies are also good to include in a wardrobe, adding a little extra warmth and cover up during those cooler evenings.
To accompany the tops, Bermuda shorts (right at the middle of the knee or right above the knee) are a hit with both guys and gals. Other shorts range in length from mid-thigh to shorty shorts. Denim and plaid shorts are also big this year for both guys and gals. Denim skirts are also a hot item for girls and can be worn over swim suits.
"Denim shorts are coming back this year for men," said Kristin Devine, manager at The Buckle. According to Devine, Mek denim is a jean of choice with elaborate detailing and a soft texture.
In addition to shorts and capri's (below the knee), cropped pants are in this season at Maurice's for gals. Cropped pants are similar to capri's but have more of a flared out leg. With many guys choosing to wear jeans during the spring and summer, Devine recommends a slim fit jean with a boot cut.
The shoe racks are filled with flip flops that free up those toes stuck for months in wool winter socks. Canvas flats are also popular and come in a variety of patterns and colors that can be complement many different outfits. However, if they don't match, that works too. Devine said it's not all about matching anymore.
To accompany the shorts Devine recommends men have at least one pair of black flip-flops and a pair of brown flip-flops in their closet.
No outfit would be complete without some accessories and this spring it's about having a lot of them. Accessories which can be found in a variety of bright colors, silver, black or brown include earrings, bracelets, watches, necklaces and that second bracelet. For men, it's watches or aviator sunglasses. The vintage style frames come in mainly brown and black coloring.
"On the ladies side it's going to be all about accessorising," said Devine. "Put your accessories on and add one more." That could be mean another bracelet or necklace for example.
Bracelets, like Bangle bracelets are also an accessory necessity this year. However, this spring it's all about wearing multiple bracelets or wearing bracelets with a wider band. "Bigger bracelets have just come back," said Devine.
Devine who often wears several bracelets said she enjoys mixing and matching hers. Long chunky bead style necklaces and dangly earrings are also in this spring. "I think big earrings show not only the fashion sense but a confidence of a woman," said Devine.
Purses are another hot item this year, however, according to Devine, the bigger they are the better. Bigger bags like Beach bags or tote bags fit the ticket and can be used for more than just a day at the lake. "A lot of our big bags are sold out right now, we can't keep them in house," she said. Roxy brand totes are popular with gals this spring.
For nights out on the town, fashion wallets serve the purposes of a stylish purse and can often be matched with any outfit.
For those needing a more business look this spring with graduation, job interviews or weddings just around the corner, B&K Mercantile offers a number of suits and sport coats and the necessary shirts and ties for men of all ages.
"Things are getting dressier as the job market is tightening up," said Bruce Kurtz, owner of B&K Mercantile. Kurtz said he has seen a number of shirts with french cuffs as well as linen and silk shirts. B&K also offers some casual clothing as well and Kurtz said Hawaiian prints are also popular this spring.
Osweiler's, a woman's fashion store offers both casual and dressy attire like business suits, dresses and skirts in not only bright colors but neutrals and navy blues as well. Black and white is another fashion favorite this spring.
"One thing that is coming back this spring is dresses," said Sharron Culbertson, manager at Osweiler's. "The styles and prints are going back to the 70's. Besides necklaces and earrings, purses are also a big accessory this spring at Osweilelr's, noted Culbertson.
