A unique local partnership is offering three events scheduled to work with Storm Lake elementary parents and students to promote good nutrition and physical activity.
North School and South School hosted the first two events this week. The final event will be at West School on Tuesday, April 15th.
This group has come together to provide parents and students the tools they need to develop healthy eating habits and understand the importance of exercise, according to Colleen Imming of Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.
These events are sponsored jointly by Storm Lake Community School District, the Early Tornado Academy, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and the Community School Health Advisory Council.
Parents and children alike learn about healthy lifesyles.
Parents and students attend stations to learn to read labels for nutritional value, importance of eating healthy snacks and take home a snack that the students will make themselves. They enjoy a puppet show, stretching exercises for the parents and an obstacle course for the students. Students will perform a song they learned about the food pyramid, and all will enjoy a healthy breakfast of egg casserole, assorted muffins, and fresh fruit to end the evening.
