Local police, sheriff's department and fire calls.

Theft

* On April 7, a theft of a bicycle was reported from the 300th block of Grand in Storm Lake. The bike was valued at 360.

Passenger falls from moving vehicle, driver cited

* On April 7, at approximately 4:11 p.m., at the intersection of West 5th and Grand Ave. in Storm Lake,a vehicle driven by Francisco Patino-Vega of Storm Lake was involved in an accident when an individual identified as Karina Osegueda of Storm Lake fell from the tailgate. Osegueda was transported by private vehicle to the BVRMC for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. Patino-Vega was cited for Failure to Have Valid Drivers License and Passenger on the Tailgate.

Accidents

* On April 04, at 4:23 p.m. a vehicle driven by Doris Harvey of Rembrantd, IA and a vehicle driven by Leon Nyren of McCook Lake, SD collided in the parking lot of Buena Vista University, 610 W 4th St, Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $400.00.

* On April 5, 2008 at 3:35 p.m. a vehicle driven by Artegal Camburn of Alta collided with a vehicle driven by David Peterson of Laurens at the intersection of 5th St and Lake Avenue. Total damages were estimated at $800.

* On April 5, at approximately 10 a.m., in the 200th block of Hudson Street in Storm Lake, a vehicle driven by Carol Bubke of Storm Lake struck a parked vehicle owned by Maria Sanchez De Davila of Storm Lake. Total damages were estimated at $900 and Bubke was cited for Unsafe Backing.

* On April 4, at approximately 6:03p.m., at 1831 N. Lake Ave., a vehicle driven by Mindy Stoltzfus, Storm Lake, was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Julie Langner of Schaller. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $1,200.

* On April 9, at approximately 5:35p.m., at 2897 Expansion Blvd., an unknown vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Terrence Jackson, Storm Lake. Damages were estimated at $150.

* On April 9, at approximately 3:11p.m., at 215 E 5th St., an unknown vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Cynthia Hoffard, Storm Lake. Damages were estimated at $200.

* On March 27, at approximately 3:53 p.m., at the intersection of E. 4th Street and Geisinger Road, a vehicle driven by Christine Woltman, Cherokee, was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Kevin Dausel, Ida Grove. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $2,000. Dausel was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Left Turn.

* On April 6, at approximately 12:55 p.m., at the intersection of 10th Street and Vestal Street, a vehicle driven by Teresa Villegas, Storm Lake, was involved in an accident with another vehicle driven by Leonard Young, Newell. The two vehicles collided causing total damages estimated at $900. Villegas was cited for No Drivers License and Young was cited for Unsafe Passing.

Police responde to threat

* On the morning of Tuesday, April 8, at approximately 8:30 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the Budget Host Motel located on North Lake Avenue in reference to a subject being threatened by another person at the motel and that the person making the threats was armed with a gun.

Upon arrival of police they met with the victim in the parking lot who alleged his roommate in room #35 had threatened him and said he had gun. The victim told police he had not seen the weapon.

Police attempted to get the occupant of the room, later identified as Randy C. Jackson, 53, Chicago, Ill., to answer the door but he did not respond. Police then entered the motel room and located Jackson lying in bed. He was taken into custody without incident.

Based on information collected police arrested Jackson and charged him with Harassment 3rd Degree. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

No weapon was located by police. No injuries were reported.

Respond to disturbance

* On the morning of Friday, April 4, at approximately 11:29am the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 600D West 8th Street in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival of police they learned that two subjects had been arguing over a civil matter. One of the subjects identified as Robert C. Smith, age 61 of Storm Lake was outside of the residence and police allege he was intoxicated.

Police arrested Smith and charged him with Public Intoxication. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300.00.

On the evening of Friday, April 4, 2008 at approximately 10:10pm the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched back to the address on West 8th Street in reference to a disturbance.

Upon arrival of police they learned that Smith had been released from jail and had returned to the residence and gotten into another argument with the occupants. While police were on location they allege they observed Smith make threats to a woman in the mobile home.

Police arrested Smith and charged him with Simple Assault. He was booked into the county jail on a $300.00 cash bond.

* On Sunday evening, April 6, Storm Lake Police were dispatched to the Laundry Basket located at 1126 North Lake Avenue in reference to an intoxicated male inside of the business.

Upon arrival police made contact once again with Robert Smith and allege he was intoxicated. Police arrested Smith and charged him with Public Intoxication. He was booked into the county jail on a $300 cash bond.

Wanted persons arrested

* On the afternoon of Tuesday, April 8, at approximately 1:30 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 1328 North Erie St. #1 in reference to locate a wanted person.

Upon arrival of police they located and arrested Maria George, 33 of Storm Lake. George was wanted for Possession of Marijuana in connection with a search warrant which was executed at that residence on April 4, where Storm Lake Police allege marijuana and other contraband were located ad seized.

George was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

* On the morning of Saturday, April 5, at approximately 12:25 a.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer while on patrol observed a wanted subject in the alley at the rear of La Juanita's on Lake Avenue.

Police made contact with Julio Jiron-Mora, 42, Storm Lake who was wanted out of Buena Vista County for Probation Violation reference Theft.

Police arrested Mora without incident and booked him into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Fire

* On the afternoon of Friday, April 4, at approximately 3:29 p.m. the Storm Lake Fire Department responded to North Elementary School in reference to an automated fire alarm.

Upon arrival of fire fighters they determined that no fire had occurred and that a water line in a closet on the second floor had ruptured. A heat detector in the closet was saturated with water which caused the alarm to activate.

No action was taken by the fire department.

The fire department was on scene for approximately 10 minutes and was assisted at the scene by the Storm Lake Police Department.
