Energy Security

President Bush made many important statements during his final State of the Union address...

One of the most important issues that he spoke about was our energy security.

President Bush believes we should trust the creative genius of American researchers and entrepreneurs to pioneer a new generation of clean energy technology. This is a good start on the road to energy security, but we also need Congress's help to explore measures that will help move our country forward. We need their help to reduce our reliance on imported energy, while making domestically energy sources more competitive. In doing so, the energy supply in the United States will become more diverse.

Achieving a diverse energy supply is the key to keeping energy prices affordable and making consumers less vulnerable to price spikes and supply disruptions. A diverse energy supply will also help our economy grow.

Although President Bush has laid our a solid start, the U.S. should continue to invest in long-term research and the development of energy technologies that mazimizes efficiency while using our existing resources. This will ensure reliable, affordable energy, which will include investment in finding new supplies of oil and gas. Now is the time to look at all our options to secure our future.
