Elementary students in Alta will have the chance to see one of the fastest growing art forms in America when OPERA Iowa arrives on March 18, 2008. Des Moines Metro Opera's award-winning touring troupe will present the 40 minute opera, The Billy Goats Gruff, for students grades K-6. A new piece for OPERA Iowa, these ornery billy goats will charm the audience with their adventures in outwitting Osmin the Troll.
OPERA Iowa's exciting productions and workshops entertain while they educate, and make opera more understandable and more accessible to students. The opera is performed in English with colorful scenery and costumes, and with musical accompaniment. Before the troupe arrives, students will work with their music teachers to help prepare them for the opera. Once OPERA Iowa arrives, the troupe members will work directly with the students in interactive workshops.
The OPERA Iowa troupe has performed in states throughout the Midwest, in Montana, and even in Japan and China to spread the thrill of opera to over 500,000 students since it began in 1986.
This performance is possible to due to donations from the Order of the Eastern Star, EdgeFest, and Boxtops for Education.
