Kiwanis to host youth wrestling tourney

The Eighth Annual Alta Kiwanis Youth Wrestling Tournament will be held Friday at the Alta High School.

There are four age groups that may compete - pee-wee Weight classes will be decided after all entries are received. Entry fees are $12; a parent or guardian must be available to sign the entry forms. Divisions and weigh-in times are:

* Pee-Wee -kindergarten through second grade - 4-5:30 p.m. weigh-in

* Bantam - third and fourth grades - 4-5:30 p.m. weigh-in

* Juniors - fifth and sixth grades - 4:30-5:30 p.m. weigh-in

* Seniors - seventh and eighth grades, 4-5:30 p.m. weigh-in

Start time will be around 6:30 p.m.

Brackets will be round-robin, four-man brackets. All wrestlers will be awarded trophies based on finish (three wins equal first place, two wins equal second place, one win equals third place, zero wins equal fourth place. If there are ties, they will be broken based upon most pins, total match points and total number of falls.

Matches will consist of three one-minute periods with a one minute sudden victory overtime if needed.

Alta varsity wrestlers, alumni wrestlers and varsity coaches will be the officials and all IHSAA rules will be followed.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for children under 18 or $8 per family. Children under 5 are free. Full concessions will be available.
