Marketlink celebrates 10 years of business

Storm Lake Marketlink's Call Center celebrated its 10th anniversary recently. Vice President of Operations Bob Beaman, Des Moines, spoke to the employees and shared appreciation to them and the community of Storm Lake.

"This is good news," he said. "When we decided to open this call center we scouted this area for some time. We thought this would be a good place for employment and it has been."

He added that the business has fulfilled the need to form a relationship with the city of Storm Lake.

"Over the 10 years, it is unbelievable how many millions of dollars of payroll have gone into the city," Beaman said, estimated $1.5-2 million is paid to Marketlink employees each year.

"We plan to be here another 10 years, if not longer. Our firm had had a great success over the years, and our Storm Lake call center has been a key contributor to that success. the Storm Lake community is an important partner in Marketlink's success."

He reminisced with the employees on the growth that has been seen over the past decade.

The business opened in Storm Lake in 1998. The first year there were 24 sales representatives. In 1999 a bilingual team was started with eight Spanish speakers. The same year a morning team was started.

In 2000, recruiting at the high school and Buena Vista University began, and still continues. In 2001 the weekend team was started and the full-time numbers increased to 62. In 2003 the business expanded again, adding an additional 20 seats. The business has employed up to 117 full time workers. "We're trying to get the center back to that number and we're inching our way there." currently, there are 80 staff and telephone sales representatives.

Marilyn Monson, Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Managing Director, was on hand to celebrate the milestone for the business.

"The Storm Lake Chamber likes to see new businesses but the reward is seeing businesses that are already here that are expanding and growing."

Center Manager Gary Mohr said to the employees, "It feels good to grow and hopefully you've enjoyed it and will stick around for the next 10 years."

Marketlink serves the cable TV industry on a national basis by providing sales calls on behalf of cable TV operators.
