BVU event explores genocide in Darfur

Thursday, February 28, 2008

On March 3 at the Buena Vista University Science Center, room 126 from 7-8:30 p.m. the ACES program will present the film, "The Devil Came on Horse Back."

A U.S. Marine Captain, Brian Steidle goes on an emotionally charged journey into the heart of Darfur, Sudan in 2004. There he witnesses the genocide that to this date has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions. As an official military observer, Steidle has access to parts of the country that no journalist could penetrate. He returns to the U.S. armed with his photographs, intent on exposing the images and stories of lives systematically destroyed. Both his documentary and his photographs alone take the viewer inside the hurricane of violence that is Darfur and, more importantly, into the hearts of those who must endure it.

Several former Sudanese families eventually relocated to the Storm Lake area.

The public is welcome, free of charge.
