Black History Month event in Cherokee

The Sanford Museum in Cherokee will be offering Black History Month Celebration events.

On February 16, the main celebration will be held at Washington High School auditorium, starting at 7 p.m.

Local middle school children will be singing African American spirituals. The winners of a Cherokee County Black History essay contest will be reading their work.

The event is partially funded by the Sioux City branch of the NAACP.

A special art exhibit for Black History Month is planned in the museum in downtown Cherokee as well.

In other upcoming Sanford Events:

* March 1 - Let's Garden (7:30 p.m.) John Beier will show visitors how to accent a yard with beauty and color.

*April 5 - Jane Ann Fee Cox - A Pioneer Woman in the promised Land (2:00 p.m.)The public is invited to a one-woman play about this pioneer family.
