Alta students begin annual fund drive for Children's Miracle Network
The elementary and middle school students at Alta have supported the Children's Miracle Network for the past several years by bringing in pennies, change and even dollars. Last year the students raised a magnificent $4,560.76.
Overall in the county, over $17,000 was raised. Children at Albert City-Truesdale also take part in fund raising events for CMN.
Half of collected funds go to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and the other half goes to St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City where the neo-natal unit is located. The dollars help tremendously on the local level as well as beyond.
BVRMC's Brad Strader complimented the Alta students, and also the AC-T students, and their efforts.
"It's great. They've done a fantastic job recognizing the importance of raising this money and they know the importance of helping children."
At Alta, the students began their fundraising last Friday on the 100th day of school. Students were asked to bring in 100 pennies; the students will bring in additional pennies to their classrooms to add to their collection.
The two classrooms which have brought in the most pennies (or coins) will be rewarded with a trip to King's Pointe Water Park.
The students are already working hard to reach their last year's goal - and hopefully go past it - and are looking forward to a little friendly competition among their friends in other classes.
