BVU tracksters kick off season Saturday

The indoor track and field season officially kicked-off for both Buena Vista track and field teams on Saturday as the Beavers hosted the BVU Open at Lamberti Recreation Center.



The men's team finished second in the team standings with 128.5 points; only seven points behind the University of Sioux Falls. 



Eric Bertelsen turned in another solid day for BVU, capturing an individual title in the long jump (6.91m) and finishing second in the 55 meter dash (6.60).

Steven Ricke placed second in the weight throw (13.63m) and ninth in the shot put (11.92). Brian Stubbe took third in the shot put (13.63) and sixth in the weight throw (12.33m). A.J. Dahm rounded out a strong showing in the field events for the Beavers by taking fifth in the high jump (1.8m). 



The running events proved to be equally as successful for the Beavers who placed first and fourth in the 4x200 meter relay, while also placing third in the 4x400. 


Individually, Tanner Russ placed fourth in the 55 meter hurdles, as Shawn Olorundami and Justin Taylor finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Justin Bauer and Chris Rowedder captured fourth and sixth, respectively in the 55 meter dash, while Bauer, Dahm, and Olorundami finished 2-3-4 in the 200 meter dash. Zach Newburg took seventh in the mile run, (5:10.32), Taylor fifth in the 800 meter run, while Jordan Flaws placed ninth in the 3,000 meter run. 



On the women's side Natalie Olorundami and Laura Czyzewicz captured the top finishes individually for the Beavers. Olorundami finished second in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.81 (.01 seconds behind the winner). Czyzewicz captured a third place finish in the weight throw (12.84m). 



Missy Reinhart placed fourth in the long jump (4.77m), ninth in the mile run, and fifth in the 800 meter run. Andrea Ahrendsen took fifth in the high jump (1.45m) and Katie McQuiston eighth in 55 meter dash (8.39). 



As a team, the Beavers placed eighth with 35 points. 


The two teams will continue their schedule Friday when they compete in the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn.
