Susan Kies charted 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals as 1A No. 9-ranked Newell-Fonda worked past Southern Cal 67-57 here Saturday night in a make-up of an early-season snowout.
The Mustangs shot 42 percent from the floor, while struggling from 3-point land (3-for-15) and the charity stripe (20-for-38).
"We really struggled with finishing in the paint. We missed a ton of easy looks. Defensively we are still making too many mistakes," said Mustangs coach Dick Jungers. "But credit our kids for finishing and knocking down some key free throws down the stretch.
"Our kids did an excellent job of taking it at them. But we have to make more of our free throws."
N-F led 16-12, 30-27 and 52-44 after the first three quarters, respectively.
Karina Overgaard added 11 points for the Mustangs, while Rachel Culp had 10, and Katelyn Laursen and Lauren Devereaux chipped in eight apiece.
Culp dished out four assists.
Devereaux had a solid all-around floor game, posting 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks to go with her eight points.
Eight of her rebounds were offensive.
