Newell drops community center drive, returns money

Tuesday, January 29, 2008

The Newell Community Center Committee has decided to discontinue their fund drive to raise money to build a community center. Committee members told the Pilot-Tribune that they were able to raise only about $37,000, far short of a $150,000 goal.

The project cost was estimated at over $1.2 million to construct a new building, renovate the Allee Building and equip the site, including a new fitness center.

The committee has decided regretfully to end its request for Vision Iowa consideration, and to return the funds donated in the community so far.
