Orabs take out SLHS girls in OT

Thursday, January 24, 2008

Ninth-ranked Spencer Tigers come to town tomorrow night

Moral victories, schmoral victories.

This was a heartbreaker, said Storm Lake coach Stacey VanDerSloot.

The Tornadoes battled back from a 17-13 first-quarter deficit, outscoring the Orabs 21-14 over the second and third periods, but got clipped by Sheldon, 60-57, in overtime here Tuesday night.

"Our team worked so hard. Sheldon played a great game hitting their 3-pointers (8-for-28) tonight. Our bench did a great job stepping it up," said VanDerSloot. "We allowed them to score 21 points in the fourth quarter again.

"We had a hand in their face - (the shots) just fell for them tonight."

Amanda Proczak led Storm Lake in scoring with 15 points.

Slone Masters had a solid all-around game, posting 14 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals and a blocked shot to boot.

Cassie Meylor added six points and seven rebounds.

Storm Lake (5-10, 5-8 Lakes) hosts 3A No. 9 Spencer tomorrow night. The Storm Lake Athletic Booster Club will hold a supper in the student center at 5:30 p.m., an hour before tip-off. The supper will consist of a pork loin, chips, baked beans, dessert and a drink for $5.
