New Thai and Lao restaurant opens in Storm Lake

Thursday, January 24, 2008

Free buffet offered on Sunday, Jan. 27

The owners of Sichanh business ventures have opened a new restaurant in Storm Lake, Little Vientiane, located on Flint Drive across from their food market and laudromat. The manager is Siamphay Khamphavong, or "Sam."

Little Vientiane is a Lao and Thai restaurant that will be open from 10:30 a.m.- 8:30 p.m. They will have a lunch buffet daily from 10:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m.

A Grand Opening will be held on Jan. 27 from 1:30-5 p.m. with a free buffet to give visitors a taste of what they have to offer. People have already been wandering in to have a sneak peek, and the kitchen is in full swing. The business has been open for about two weeks and after the weekend the buffet will be up and running. Until then, customers may order off the menu.

"Lao and Thai food may be a little spicier than some people are used to from Asian foods, but we give you the chance to choose how spicy the food will be on a scale from 1-5," Sam said. She explained the difference between Chinese food and Thai and Lao is that they use more spices and have more ingredients than typical Chinese offerings. "We like hotter foods, spices and more peppers. Some of the more familiar foods you will see are grilled pork chops, steaks and chicken breast. The buffet will also offer more authentic Thai and Lao foods.

After buffet hours, visitors may still order meals such a plate with pork chop, steamed rice, eggs and broth.

Right now, there is seating for about 35, but Sam talked about plans for expansion. She said, "If we get well known, we may open up room beside us next door to allow more room.

The new Coffee Plus coffeeshop location will be opening soon in the same new triplex.
