The Alta JV boys basketball team traveled to Laurens to take on the Chargers last Monday, Jan. 14 and won in impressive fashion, 60-27. Josiah DeRoos led the way with 17 points, while Ryan Friedrich had 14, Jeremy Lambert 13, and Robert Maharry eight.
DeRoos also had six boards to lead in that category followed by Lambert with five.
Lambert added seven steals and Jon Lietz four assists.
"We took a step forward in this game," said Alta coach Dean Lietz. "We took care of the ball well and had good ball pressure all game."
One night later, the Cyclones jumped out early and never trailed in a 45-15 road win at Aurelia.
With the victory the Cyclones improved to 7-2 on the season.
Balanced scoring was the name of the game for Alta as Maharry led with nine, DeRoos eight, and Cameron Manteufel and Friedrich six each to lead the way.
Lambert grabbed five boards, Maharry charted four steals, and Jared Buckendahl had 3 assists.
"We forced a lot of turnovers but struggled some to convert. We didn't shoot very well but our defensive pressure was what set the tone for the game. We're improving all the time and that's what pleases me most," said Lietz.
