The Hall of Fame Class of 2008 has been announced by the Iowa RockNRoll Music Association. The 20 honorees include bands, individual performers, a ballroom, radio station, disc jockey, music business and a 90-plus year old ballroom employee.
Representing Northeast Iowa are trombonist/writer/arranger Nick Lane, the IBTC band and disc jockey Wayne Johnson. Bands Enoch Smoky and The Daybreakers are fromSoutheast Iowa. Des Moines Central Region inductees are the bands Terra Firma and Sky Dancer along with promoter Music Circuit Productions Inc.
Southwest Iowa is represented by guitarist to the stars Marvin Ross and radio station KMA of Shenandoah. Inductees from the West River Region are the bands The Establishment, and the Silver Strings.
Northwest Iowa honorees are Billy Rat & the Finks, The Petites and the Woodcliff Ballroom of Spencer. Also from Spencer is the inductee in the "Women Who Rocked" category, Vicki Lutes.
A 94-year old ticket taker at the Lake Robbins Ballroom at Woodward is the Support Staff inductee in 2008. Kip Stafford has been working in that ticket booth since the ballroom opened 76 years ago.
The lone inductee from outside of Iowa is the popular Nebraska band - The Coachmen. The 2008 Iowa RockNRoll Dan Matousek Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to promoter, radio personality, performer, recording artist Smokey Smith. Among his stellar credentials, he is credited with booking Elvis Presley into Veterans Auditorium in Des Moines back in 1956, the first Iowa appearance for "The King."
The Iowa RockNRoll Music Association Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular two-day extravaganza will take place in Arnolds Park on Aug. 30-31, 2008.
