ALTA - The first-ranked in Class 1A Alta Cyclones let their defense do the talking, beating Newell-Fonda 65-42 Friday.
Alta got out early with a 15-11 lead after one quarter, and led 34-22 at half. They entered the fourth quarter at 55-31.
"We really got after them defensively all night after a slow first quarter. In the middle-to-late second quarter I think we went on a 9-0 run and added a three-pointer at the buzzer to really get some momentum heading into halftime," said Alta coach Bart Smith. "We kept the pressure on in the second half and got some really good looks offensively. We played really unselfishly and this team is really coming together and is shown with our balanced scoring attack."
Jordan Hinkledey had a big game for the Cyclones putting up 12 points and five boards while Mike Huseman added 11 points and four rebounds. Aaron Hansen had 10 points, Cody Nesbitt nine, Jack Mills and Quentin Thomas eight apiece, Scott Radke, Josiah DeRoos, and Chris Schmitz all with two, and Austin Stille added one.
Alta moves on the a perfect 11-0 conference record, while Newell falls to 6-6. Alta plays next in Cherokee on Saturday, while the Mustangs wait until Tuesday to play Schaller-Crestland at home.
