Storm Lake placed fourth out of six teams at the 12th annual Kuemper Catholic High School Duals Wrestling Invitational here Saturday.
Ogden went 5-0 to win the tournament, followed by Guthrie Center (4-1), Kuemper (3-2), Storm Lake (2-3), Underwood (1-4) and Missouri Valley (0-5).
Storm Lake lost to Kuemper 42-36; beat Underwood 58-17; lost to Ogden 49-18; beat Missouri Valley 39-37; and lost to Guthrie Center, 48-24, in that order.
Tornadoes coach Ty Seaman said his team gave away the Kuemper meet.
"In three matches we were in the lead or pinning our opponent and got pinned; we did not wrestle our best and we lost our focus out there," Seaman said. "(Against Underwood) overall we dominated this meet, but in the middle we had some matches that were real battles and we did a good job of staying after it and wrestling hard."
Seaman credited Ogden's solid wrestling team, but said the Tornadoes still wrestled hard against it.
"(In the Missouri Valley dual) we did not wrestle our best and we still managed a win in this meet. Sometimes it is just about surviving and I would say we just survived in this meet but we will still take the win," he said. "(Guthrie Center has) a real solid team and we went out and battled with them. This was our fifth match of the day and I felt most of the kids wrestled hard and gave a good effort."
Three Tornadoes placed second Saturday by winning 4-of-5 matches - Ryan Lovstad (145 pounds), Gabrial Torres (103) and Ben Seaman (152).
Additionally, five Storm Lakers earned third place - Patrick Higgins (140), Chris Rios (119), Tony Pertzborn (160), Jake Larson (189) and Jose Diaz (125).
All went 3-2 except for Rios, who was 2-2.
"I have been telling the kids lately to not just be satisfied. Win or lose we need to look for things we can do better," Seaman said. "We can stop and pat ourselves on the back when things are all over."
Storm Lake heads to Sheldon to take on Sheldon/South O'Brien and E-LC this Thursday. Wrestling is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
