Tornado boys fall to Le Mars by three points

Thursday, January 10, 2008

Another Lakes Conference opponent. Another tough-to-swallow loss.

The Storm Lake boys basketball team made 26 turnovers and shot just 50 percent at the foul line (6-for-12) Tuesday at Tornado Fieldhouse in a league loss. That was the bad news.

The good news was they were playing a Le Mars club that is off to a 7-3 start overall and is in third place in the Lakes at 5-2 - and they lost by just three points, 60-57.

"Too many turnovers. As a team we have to value all those possessions," Storm Lake coach Bob Grant said. "If we shoot 75 percent from the line, we (could have won) the game. We have to get that consistency down and get guys on the same page. I thought we were giving ourselves a chance to win it.

"We were all disappointed but at the same time ... we forget about all the good things we did."

The game was knotted at 44-44 going into the final quarter.

Jesse Munger led Storm Lake with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

A.J. Croker added 11 points, two more than Jordan Carlson.

Storm Lake (4-6, 3-4 Lakes) hosts E-LC tomorrow night. The Midgets are just 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the league.

"We have to remember, they're a Lakes Conference team," said Grant. "We have to play our best game. If we win this, we could be .500 on the first round of our league play."

Score by Quarters

Le Mars 13 25 6 16 - 60

SLHS 14 22 8 13 - 57
