Doubleheader at Siebens tomorrow night, with women starting at 6
After trailing Luther College for most of the afternoon, the Buena Vista men's basketball team used a 26-9 run over the final 13 minutes of the game en route to a 56-47 victory over the Norse (4-7, 0-3 IIAC) on Saturday.
Luther jumped out to an early 13-6 advantage over the Beavers and would maintain the lead for most of the first half before extending its lead to 11 with 4:36 left. From there, BVU used an 11-4 run to pull to within four (27-23) at the break.
Ryan Kuhn would hit back-to-back buckets for Luther to put the Norse back up by nine to begin the second half. The teams then went back-and-forth over the next three minutes as the Norse held a 38-30 lead with 13:10 remaining.
A pair of free throws from Andre Wagner at the 11:39 mark began the game-ending run for the Beavers, who would go on to win their third straight game overall.
Kyle Stribe, who went 5-of-11 from the field, and made the only three-point bucket by BVU in the contest, led the way with 13 points. Wagner sank 7-of-8 free-throws to follow with 11, as Brian Fogleman led the Beavers with nine rebounds.
Austin Bildstein paced Luther with 13 points as Kuhn followed with 10.
BVU, which shot 53.7 percent from the floor in the second half, finished the game at 40.4 percent, despite making just 1-of-9 shots overall from long distance.
The Beavers, (9-3, 3-0 IIAC) will look to stay unbeaten in league play when they entertain Wartburg College (4-8, 1-2) tomorrow night with game-time scheduled for 8 p.m. The BVU women tip off in the opening part of the doubleheader at 6.
