Storm Lake's wrestling team took seventh out of eight teams at the Clear Lake Invitational Saturday.
The tourney was won by the host Lions, who are ranked third in 2A.
"This was not our best outing as a team," Tornadoes coach Ty Seaman said. "We did have some good individual performances but as a team we did not wrestle our best."
Patrick Higgins (140 pounds) led Storm Lake by taking first place in his weight class.
Higgins pinned Le Mars' Zach Reuter in 1:42; topped New Hampton's Eddie Rausch 7-1; and knocked off Clear Lake's Christian Trebil by a 12-1 major decision in the finals.
Ben Seaman (152) had the Tornadoes' next best finish by taking third.
He pinned New Hampton's Simon Schuckhard in 1:16; dropped a 4-2 decision to Clear Lake's Spencer Rollefson; topped St. Ansgar's Joey Heimer by a 10-2 major decision; and pinned Forest City's Mitch Tuttle in 2:46.
Storm Lake's Ryan Lovstad got fourth at 145, while Gabrial Torres was fifth at 103.
"Patrick Higgins had maybe his best matches of the year and Ben Seaman also wrestled four solid matches," coach Seaman said.
"We did not have the intensity that we need to wrestle against good competition and that is something that comes from within. We had a hard time getting any momentum. We need to feed off each other a little more."
Seaman said Jared Brashears, one of the team's top wrestlers, went down with an injury.
"I think we were all hurt a bit with Jared Brashears getting injured," he said. "This is a tight group of kids and they all were concerned with his injury."
Storm Lake heads to Sioux City Heelan for a dual Thursday at 6 p.m. and is at the Carroll Kuemper Dual Invite Saturday at 10 a.m.
