AGHSC coach Scott Phelps knew the competition would be tough.
And it was.
The Stonecutters took third out of five teams here Saturday at their own duals tournament, going 2-2 to place behind champion Manson-Northwest Webster (4-0) and second-place Akron-Westfield (3-1).
In duals rankings, Manson-NW is rated 10th in 1A while A-W is ninth.
"(We) were happy with the effort and the strides that are being made since the Christmas break," Phelps said. "This is the kind of competition that our guys need this time of year.
"The guys are working hard and showing good progress as they try to reach their goals."
The Stonecutters beat MOC-FV 56-15, lost to Manson 44-27, beat Sioux City North JV 59-21, and lost to Akron 41-40 by sixth criterion, in that order.
MOC-FV (1-3) and Sioux City North JV (0-4) went 4-5.
AGHSC had four champs and one runner-up Saturday.
Ryan Donahoo (112 pounds), Adam Parker (130), Kyle Yearous (140) and Adam Dreeszen (285) won titles by going 4-0, while Steve White (135) took second with a 3-1 showing.
Dreeszen recorded a team-best four pins.
Donahoo and Parker - who is ranked fifth in 2A at 130 by The Predicament - each racked up three pins and a technical fall.
Yearous and White booked three pins of their own.
AGHSC (13-7) heads to Mapleton to compete against BC-IG/O-A and MV-AO in a Maple Valley meet Thursday.
